Nucleosides from the marine sponge Haliclona sp.
Three known nucleosides were isolated from the sponge Haliclona sp. The structures were established on the basis of NMR data and comparison with those reported, and chemotaxonomic relationships of the sponge nucleosides were discussed.

A new 20-membered macrolide designated exiguolide has been isolated from the marine sponge Geodia exigua, and its structure determined by interpretation of spectroscopic data. Exiguolide specifically inhibited fertilization of sea urchin (Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus) gametes but not embryogenesis of the fertilized egg. © 2006 Elsevier Science. All rights reserved ———
متن کاملMultiple approaches to enhance the cultivability of bacteria associated with the marine sponge Haliclona (gellius) sp.
Three methods were examined to cultivate bacteria associated with the marine sponge Haliclona (gellius) sp.: agar plate cultures, liquid cultures, and floating filter cultures. A variety of oligotrophic media were employed, including media with aqueous and organic sponge extracts, bacterial signal molecules, and siderophores. More than 3,900 isolates were analyzed, and 205 operational taxonomic...
متن کاملApoptosis-Inducing Activity of Marine Sponge Haliclona sp. Extracts Collected from Kosrae in Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer A549 Cells
Although various anticancer drugs have been developed for the treatment of nonsmall cell lung cancer, chemotherapeutic efficacy is still limited. Natural products such as phytochemicals have been screened as novel alternative materials, but alternative funds such as marine bioresources remain largely untapped. Of these resources, marine sponges have undergone the most scrutiny for their biologi...
متن کاملHaliclocyclin C, a New Monomeric 3-Alkyl Pyridinium Alkaloid from the Arctic Marine Sponge Haliclona viscosa
In recent years, a number of novel 3-alkyl pyridinium alkaloids were identified from the crude extract of the Arctic marine sponge Haliclona viscosa [1 – 5]. The material available from this sponge was limited by the small size of the individuals, their slow growth rate and the effort to sample substainably in the Arctic ecosystem. A new refinement of the spectroscopic methods led to improved r...
